THE HISTORY OF THE THIBODEAU
AND THERIAULT SIDE OF THE FAMILY
Thanks to my sister Marcelle Miller's diligent research.
Both sides of the family are of Acadian descent and as you have read their history, you realize
the percecution they have suffered. After ten generations of Theriaults in Canada, Alphonse
Theriault emigrated to Lewiston, Maine and married Odile Theriault, my grandmother, who was born in 1867.
They had 11 children and my father,
Thomas was the tenth child. Alphonse died in 1922 and Odile in 1948 so I did get to see her once that I remember. This picture of the Theriault grandparents must have been taken around the WW1 as that is Uncle Joe, their 3rd child, in the uniform.
My father Thomas was also in the WW1 as a medic and in 1920 he married my mother Marie Rose Thibodeau
and had 12 children. Papa died in 1953 and Mama in 1972. Both are
buried in Rumford, Maine.
Mama's parents were Jean-Baptiste Thibodeau and Amanda Ouellette.
and they were married in Fall River, Mass in 1890
and she was the daughter of Paul Ouellette and Felicite Ross.
If your name is THIBAUDEAU, THIBODEAU or THIBODAUX and you live in
North America, you are undoubtedly descendent of the acadian pioneer
Pierre Thibeaudeau (1631-1704). He is the founder of the village of Chipoudie. He was not a hero or a historical character but he contributed to the building of Acadie and America. The Deportation of 1755 is the reason one has relatives in the United States, New Brunswick, Maine and in Louisiana.
Both maternal grandparents are buried in Coaticook.
Marcelle visited and got these pictures.
